报告摘要

  “Conventional” sp2- carbonates hosting [CO3]2- -building blocks are the major source of carbon in the Earth's crust . A significant extension of the family of carbonates was the discovery that sp3- carbonates with [CO4]4- building blocks can be found at high p,T-conditions (> 70 GPa, > 1500 K). A further enlargement of the crystal chemistry of carbonates was the discovery that inorganic pyrocarbonates can be obtained by reactions at lower pressures (20-30 GPa). We found that an efficient route for the synthesis of novel carbonates is to either react carbonates with oxides or CO2, or to react oxides with CO2]. Currently we are investigating the synthesis of novel sp2-, sp3- and pyrocarbonates in laser-heated diamond anvil cells (LH-DACs) using single-crystal X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy. Our experimental data are complemented by DFT-calculations. We demonstrated that chemically simple sp2- carbonates such as Be[CO3], Al2[CO3]3 or Fe2[CO3]3 can be synthesized by a reaction of a corresponding oxide (BeO, Al2O3, or Fe2O3) with CO2, even if carbonates hosting this cations were not known before. Some of them can be recovered at ambient conditions or may be considered as a potential host of carbon in the Earth’s mantle.              

嘉宾简介

  Dominik Spahr is a postdoctoral researcher in the high-pressure crystallography group of Prof. E. Bykova at the Goethe University Frankfurt (Germany). He received his bachelor and master degree in the Institute of geosciences at the Goethe University in Frankfurt. Afterwards, he obtained his PhD in crystallography-mineralogy in the group of Prof. B. Winkler in the same institute. His research interest is the high-pressure synthesis and characterization of novel type of carbonates, mainly focusing on light-element- and hydrogencontaining compounds.
